Freefall draws from a full palette of musical styles, influences and experiences. Combining elements of jazz, rock, funk, classical, Latin, reggae and blues, Freefall performs exciting new arrangements of jazz standards, R&B classics and inspired original compositions. Five of Central New York's finest and most in-demand musicians come together to form this sensational quintet.
Freefall's treatment of the music of such diverse artists as Miles Davis, George Benson, Blood Sweat & Tears, Bonnie Raitt, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Cocker, Lennon & McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, and others has been enjoyed by audiences throughout the northeast for over 15 years. Their original compositions, while heavily influenced by groups such as Weather Report, Mahavishnu, and Yellowjackets, are uniquely their own.
From nightclubs to outdoor festival stages, Freefall presents the hottest in traditional jazz mixed with the innovative sounds of contemporary improvised music. Freefall continues to be one of Central New York's hottest bands!
Born in Oswego, NY, keyboardist and musical director Stan Gosek has been performing professionally since childhood. A master of the electronic keyboards, Stan is also responsible for all of Freefall's arrangements and original compositions. He is the retired Chairman of the Music Department and Director of Jazz Studies at SUNY-Oswego. His arrangements for Big Bands and Vocal Ensembles have been featured at Jazz Festivals around the country.
A graduate of SUNY Oswego, Dani Gottuso has happily been the voice of Freefall for about 7 years. She performs regularly in the CNY Theatre scene, doing both straight plays and musical theatre. Dani was formerly the back-up vocalist for the original rock group, The Mike Estep Band. By day, Dani works in conflict resolution and violence prevention with the company PRL Associates. She also teaches Musical Theatre and Drama for Syracuse Children's Theatre and to private students.
Featured on trumpet, flugelhorn, soprano sax, and percussion, Redd Swindells is native of Oswego, NY. Music has been Redd's avocation for about 30 years, with experience ranging from orchestra to drum corps to big band to opera to rock. A regular member of the Oswego College/Community Orchestra and Oswego Festival Chorus, he has also performed with the Oswego Opera Theater, Lakeside Dinner Theater and the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble, along with a host of small groups.
Bassist Dave Welsch, originally from Scranton, PA., is the first-call bassist for a number of bands and theater companies in the area, and is the featured bassist with the SAMMY award winning Mario DeSantis Orchestra. Dave operates DayGig Music, a web design and music contracting company. His clients include internationally renowned musicians such as bassist Victor Wooten, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, legendary bassist, Chuck Rainey, and Shania Twain drummer JD Blair.
Ernie Pichette is once again behind the drum set on the Freefall stage! Ernie played in the band in the early 1990's before leaving for New York City with the progressive rock band, Visual Touch. Ernie is a computer specialist and teaches perrcussion at Northstar Music Studios.
